Jesus Birthday Celebration Ride
by FaithRiders Motorcycle Ministry
Remembering Jesus’ birthday is the easy part. We all know it’s on Dec. 25. We also go about it pretty much the same way – shopping, gift giving, parties, simbang gabi and traffic. But what about bikers? How do we go about it as BIKERS?
Last November 22 (Saturday), Faithriders, some Explorer Riders and RAMCATS and a few friends (around 20 riders all in all) joined together for a celebration of Jesus’ birthday in Pranjeto via Marilaque- biker style. It wasn’t the best of weathers to ride but it was the best of people to ride with.
The road was wet that morning so maxing it out carving the pavements of Marilaque was not achievable but the weather was fair and the sun didn’t shine hot that day. Actually, rain poured on our way home and mud was the word of the day.
Upon arrival at Pranjeto, we placed our orders for the food and, while waiting, proceeded to have our games. GAMES? What games? Yeah, games with prizes too! Bike keys were placed in a helmet and a random draw was made to get the first 4 contestants on center stage (heheh.. there wasn’t really a stage). Once that was done and the 4 were up front, we commenced our biker games to start the celebration. First one up was the “Fastest Gear Up”. It’s a simple enough game. 4 bikers, a long table and their respective helmets, gloves and jackets were place on the table in front of each rider. On “Go!” each rider must wear his gear as fast as he can – strapped helmet and gloves and a zipped up jacket were required. The fastest one wins P40. Cheap prize, yes but the spirit of the game was priceless. Plus it gets to pay for about half their food expenses. J
The next game was the opposite – “Fastest Gear Off”. This time around, the rider is all dressed with all 3 items and the object of the game was to get it all off in the fastest time. The winner also gets P40.
The last game we did was one involving riding skills. The gravel shoulder was made into our “track” – about 20 feet of it. To the right and near the end of the designated track, 4 chairs were placed side by side. Riders were to mount and ride their bikes from a starting point some 15 feet away from the chairs. Right hand on the throttle, left hand holding one glove, they were to ride to their assigned chair, slow down as slow as they could beside the chair (feet were not allowed to touch the ground) and attempt to throw their glove with their left hand over to their right side and land it on the seat of the chair. The closest to the center of the seat wins. We called this “Target Fixation”. Sad to say but only one rider actually landed the glove on the seat, everyone else practically threw their glove and landed on the gravel.
With these 3 games over, we started to eat and the rain started to pour. Meanwhile, free God themed stickers, bookmarks and keychains were given out to those who wanted and it was surprising that many riders got more than a few. Just goes to show how hungry men are for the word of God.
Lastly, a short talk was given and a prayer made to greet Jesus a happy birthday and to thank God for all His blessings.
God is a great god. It was wonderful to see strangers get together to celebrate the birth of our common savior. New friendships were founded that day. Old ones rekindled. It was a gathering of riders with different backgrounds, different ages, and different rides but one thing was common – Jesus was remembered and was the center of it all that ride. And it was a fun and fantastic ride indeed. Thanks to all who made it a success!
Jesus ROCKS! God bless you all.
