Motorcycle Oil
It Surprised Me. It’ll surprise you.
A few years ago, my ride buddies and I planned to ride to Laoag for a biker jamboree. Like any other biker, I was excited like a little boy. At that time, it was to be my longest ride ever. Prior to that ride, my longest was Lucban in Quezon province. But unlike any other ride, it was to turn out far different from what I had in mind.
A few weeks before the ride I had my carburetor overhauled just for good measure since I’ve never had it looked at since I bought the bike. Lucky me, the mechanic cracked the manifold as he re-installed it. The carb then started to leak air as the engine breathed in making idling very rough and making it run generally worse off than before the overhaul. This made me ask God if He wanted me to join the ride or stay put. That might sound like a strange question to you so let me clarify – l ask my fiance her opinion on everything cause I love her and value her thoughts. Not that I decide everything towards what she wants but on the contrary we usually compromise, which is healthy in my opinion. What more to seek God’s opinion and even more so His plan. I mean, who do you think can come up with a better plan, God or me?
With that, I asked Him and I got my answer in a really cool way. 3 days before the ride, I was on my bike riding my usual route to pick up my fiancé as usual at our usual meeting place. On this particular day, as I was riding, I was talking to God and saying, “Lord, kung gusto mo ko sumama sa ride, ok. I’ll trust you even if my carb is failing. Pero If you don’t want me to go for whatever reason, I’m ok with that. Just let me know clearly.” As I spoke these words to Him in my head, I glanced at a bus parked along the road. It caught my attention cause I rarely see busses on that road. But that wasn’t the sweet surprise. Written on the side of , the bus were these words, “Welcome to the Beautiful City of Laoag.” But not only that, I had a bonus, and I’m not crazy when I say this; I heard a voice in my head saying, “I will take you to Laoag and back.” You better believe that I nearly fell off my ride with excitement cause I was confirmed to ride! My longest ride ever! I was going to Laoag!
On a crisp cold morning, 3 days later, I met up with my ride buddies and took off at around 3 in the morning for our historic ride to Laoag. We were ripping the pavement on our cruisers on NLEX that morning, staying constantly at a very windy 140kph. We whizzed by trucks and cars like they were sign posts on the side of the road. As I slowed near the tollbooth, something happened that would test my resolve in God’s word. As I came to a stop to pay for my toll, steam, and I mean thick thick “can’t see my handlebar anymore” thick steam rose from my engine in front of me. This went on for a few seconds which, needless to say scared the crap out of me. I paid the toll and inspected my ride to see what in blazes that steam was and where it came from. I saw oil. Lots of it. It covered the right side of the engine, tranny, and muffler. There was some on my pant leg and my fiancé’s (backriding). A bit was on the rear tire. Apparently, the gasket of the oil filter cover blew out about an inch. You could actually see where there was gasket sealant and where there was none. It dripped and dripped oil.
My ride buddies asked me and kinda tried to persuade me to not continue for safety’s sake and to not kill my bike with overheating and seizing. But I remembered that morning I saw the bus and the words I read on it and the words I heard in my head that I swore was God talking to me. After a few minutes, I said “No”. God promised me He will take me to Laoag and back. He is a God that keeps His promises. So I banked on it. I figured I’d just refill the oil at every gas stop.
So that’s what I did. At our first gas stop, I checked the oil level, cleaned off the oil spraying all over my engine, cleaned off the oil on my pants and my fiance’s and wiped off the oil off of my rear tire. On the next gas stop, I did all of that again and again – cleaning the oil off. Wiping it off everywhere it touched and landed. My fiance had to even wrap her pant leg with a plastic bag to keep the oil from touching her pants, boots and socks. I did all that over and over again at every gas and snack stop.
During this trip, we traveled about 900 kilometers from Manila to Laoag and around the area there and back to Manila. We stopped about 20 times. I cleaned the oil off my bike about twenty times. I checked the oil level on my bike about twenty times.
Through it all, my biggest surprise was this - Not once did I ever put a drop of oil in my engine. Not once. Not a drop. Let me repeat that; NOT ONCE DID I EVER PUT A SINGLE DROP OF OIL IN MY ENGINE during the entire trip. Manila to Laoag to Manila. Surprised? I was, to say the least.
Throughout the trip, the oil level remained constant. It kept spewing out oil but the oil level remained constant. I kept cleaning off the oil but it remained constant.
So if you are about to change your oil and are thinking or asking what the best oil for your ride is, use God’s oil. He surprised me. I’m pretty sure He’ll surprise you too.
Oh and by the way, that carb problem I had before the trip, it never showed it’s ugly face not once. That is how good my God is. That is how cool He is.
God Bless You All and Ride safe
